PURPOSE: the setting of basic price for pigmeat for the\n2000/2001 marketing year.
\nCONTENT: in accordance with the approach followed for the reform of\nthe common organisation of the markets in connection with Agenda\n2000 and in order to enable producers to work out longer term\nproduction plans, the basic price should be fixed without any limit\nin time, without prejudice to any revisions that may be called for\nin the future. The basic price must be set at a level that helps to\nstabilise market prices without leading to the formation of\nstructural surpluses within the Community.
\nIn line with the multiannual approach, it is proposed that the\nbasic price and the standard quality be fixed in the basic\nRegulation 2759/75/EEC. The basic price should remain at the\npresent level of EUR 1 509.39/tonne.
\nIt should be remembered that the specific role of the basic price\nrelates to intervention measures, i.e. the possible grant of\nprivate storage aid. Such measures can be introduced when the\naverage Community market price is less than 103% of the basic\nprice. The standard quality is fixed for:
\n- carcases weighing from 60kg to less than 120kg: grade E,
\n- carcases weighing from 120kg to 180kg: grade R.
\nThe proposal also updates the article in Regulation 2759/75/EEC to\nbring the committee procedures into line with Council Decision\n1999/468/EC of 28 June 1999 laying down the procedures for the\nexercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission.

The committee adopted the report (consultation procedure) by\nElisabeth JEGGLE (EPP/ED, D) on the farm-price package for\n2000/2001. It amended the Commission proposal on the common\norganisation of the market in cereals as it was opposed to the\nCommission's plans to reduce the monthly increments paid to cereal\nfarmers by 7.5% in the coming year. The committee called for\ncereals increments to be maintained at current levels in the coming\nyear and thereafter. It also called for the derogation concerning\nthe maximum moisture content in cereal to be continued, on the\ngrounds that this provision was of importance to a number of Member\nStates.

The European Parliament adopted the report drafted by\nElisabeth JEGGLE (EPP/ED, Germany) on the farm-price package for\n2000/2001.
\nIt approved the Commission's proposal on the common organisation of\nthe market in pigmeat.

Following discussion of Commission proposals on setting prices\nfor agricultural products the Council adopted the Regulations\nconcerning sugar (by a qualified majority) and pigmeat and noted\nthat there were problems with the other products; it agreed to\nresume consideration of this subject at its next meeting. The\nSpanish delegation regretted that no solution had been found as\nregards its repeated request for a support system for nuts, during\nthe current discussion of agricultural prices for 2000/2001\nmarketing year.

PURPOSE: to amend Council Regulation 2759/75/EEC on the common\norganisation of the market in pigmeat.
\nCOMMUNITY MEASURE: Council Regulation 1365/2000/EC amending\nRegulation 2759/75/EEC on the common organisation of the market in\npigmeat.
\nCONTENT: The Council formally accepted the Regulation on the common\norganisation of the market in pigmeat. For the pigmeant sector,\nprices are fixed for an indeterminate period, following the CAP\nreforms since 1992. In line with the multiannual approach, the\nbasic approach and the standard quality are fixed in the basic\nRegulation 75/2759/EC. The basic price shall remain at the present\nlevel of EUR 1509, 39/tonne. It should be remembered that the\nspecific role of the basic price relates to intervention measure,\ni.e. the possible granting of private storage aid. Such measures\ncan be introduced when the average Community market price is less\nthan 103% of the basic price.
